Mapping Floods in Urban Areas From Dual-Polarization InSAR Coherence Data

چکیده
Previous studies have shown that the decrease of temporal interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) coherence could be exploited to detect appearance floodwater in urban areas. However, as today, approaches based on this principle only make use single co-polarization images for identifying presence double-bounce feature. In study, we take advantage both co- and cross-polarization significant decreases multitemporal InSAR order enhance mapping We consider not scattering, but also multiple-bounce may occur areas depending how building facades are oriented with respect (SAR) sensor’s line sight. The Sentinel-1 (S-1) mission is particularly well suited applying testing kind approach due systematic availability dual-polarization data. Using a test case, widespread flooding city Houston, USA, caused by Hurricane Harvey 2017, demonstrate proposed methodology leads an increase accuracy flood maps from 75.2% when using VV polarization, 82.9% dual polarization information.

Model Accuracy Comparison for High Resolution Insar Coherence Statistics over Urban Areas
The interferometric coherence map derived from the cross-correlation of two complex registered synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is the reflection of imaged targets. In many applications, it can act as an independent information source, or give additional information complementary to the intensity image. Specially, the statistical properties of the coherence are of great importance in land ...

The automatic 3-D reconstruction of buildings for the generation of city models is of great interest for different tasks. Besides the classical photogrammetric approaches to determine object heights indirectly, range sensors like laser (LIDAR) and interferometric SAR (InSAR) play an important role since recent years. From both sensors images are produced with a ground resolution better than a m...

متن کاملTerrasar X-band Insar Observations in Urban Areas
SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) has ability to detect subtle surface movement at the scale of millimeter to centimeter. TerraSAR-X is new radar satellite operated at X-band, multi polarization, and multi beam mode. Compared with C-band or L-band SAR, the X-band system inherently suffers from more temporal decorrelation due to short wavelength (3.1 cm), but is more sensitive to surface deformatio...
متن کاملUnderstanding ERS Coherence over Urban Areas
C-band SAR interferometry has been widely used for several Earth related studies (topography, volcanology, forestry etc.). Nevertheless, not much attention has been paid to urban areas and coherence has been used for classification purposes only. In this study we focused on the meaning of coherence of an urban area and performed several analysis in order to understand what causes decorrelation....
